About the role
The Manufacturing Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring goods and services for the organization while ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery. This role supports operational needs and contributes to strategic procurement initiatives.
Key responsibilities will include
- Procurement Execution: Review and process purchase requisitions, Process RFQ’s (RFP/RFS if required), Prepare and issue purchase orders in compliance with company policies. Maintain purchase order confirmations and delivery dates. Manage open purchase orders, manage blanket purchase orders and delivery schedules and maintain 100% component parts availability for Production.
- Supplier Management: Identify and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, and reliability. Maintain strong vendor relationships and resolve issues promptly. Visit suppliers as required, Cost Optimisation, Negotiate pricing and terms to achieve cost savings (considering total cost of supply), Monitor market trends and identify supply chain opportunities.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to procurement policies and legal requirements, maintain accurate records of purchases and supplier agreements, adhere to any regulatory requirements and support the Supplier Quality team with non-conforming product resolution.
- Coordination: Collaborate with internal departments to understand requirements, including regular interaction with Production, R&D, Warehouse & Operations and Track deliveries and manage discrepancies in orders or invoices. Communicate delays as needed.
- Support activities: Assist and support the development of a company Procurement strategy, Work with a team to implement and a maintain a robust MRP system (Sage 200), Implement long term stocking agreements as required, Support the spare parts team as required, Quarterly review of part number Reorder levels, Risk & single source supplier management, Inventory management and control, working with the Warehouse & Finance teams and Be willing to travel as required, mainly UK.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 2–4 years of experience in purchasing or procurement, gained in a manufacturing environment.
- Working with R&D and Production teams
- Valid UK driving license - required to travel to suppliers within UK
- Ability to work effectively and professionally with all other functions and levels within the organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in managing supplier relationships and securing competitive pricing, lead times, etc
- Knowledge of procurement processes and supply chain principles.
- Analytical thinking and attention to detail (part numbers, dates, quantities, etc)
- Proficiency in MRP/ERP systems like SAP and Microsoft Office
- Understanding of Bills of Material and revision control
- Effective oral, written and presentation skills.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working in a medical devices company (ISO 13485) is highly desirable.
- Certification (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) is desirable.
- Experience of Sage 200 Professional is desirable.
- Working knowledge of Lean Principles and Six Sigma is desirable.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite.
- The application of AI tools in a purchasing/procurement environment is desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or supply chain management.
