As an engineering manager in the Mobile App team, you will be working with cross functional teams of skilled and passionate engineers, designers, and data scientists, developing a mobile application for everyday drivers, based on our latest navigation technologies. The purpose of our application is to show case TomTom's innovative location-based technologies and maximise our learning, using passive and active community input to redefine what location technology stands for.

What you’ll do:

    • As Senior Engineering Manager, you are accountable for the outcomes achieved by your team. You manage several engineering teams, directly or indirectly via other Engineering Managers.
    • Your performance is significantly based on the business impact of your team, as well as the extent to which the team develops top talent through daily business.
    • You set guidelines and policies for all developers in our department by aligning with peers, the industry and tech leads. You add value to our software engineering practices by challenging and improving the process and applying best practices from the industry.
    • Your most important tool for delivering results is identifying growth opportunities, empowering team members to take ownership and coaching them to success and doing a little bit better every day.
    • Beyond helping your team to be successful, you show leadership by identifying opportunities and taking ownership of initiatives outside of your team's scope.
    • You define a team topology and staffing plan that sets the team for success. The growth of team members, team health, career planning and performance management are playing a supporting role here.
    • You will be a member of the Engineering Leadership core team, as a steering group for the department.

What you’ll need:

    • We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with a history of leading larger product teams (25+ engineers), managing multiple engineering managers and a solid understanding of modern incremental and iterative software product development and their implications.
    • You have a proven understanding of the business, the technology applied and the product. This will help you to assess the impact of what the teams deliver and take ownership for shaping the direction of the team and its systems in line with business objectives and strategy.
    • You are highly empathetic, an excellent communicator, a true role model for leadership inputs and principles, and enjoy helping others to be successful just as much as having individual impact.
    • You have sufficient technical skills from your background in software development. You mainly use these skills to identify, evaluate, and grow talent, and ensure the team is staffed well and moving in the right direction.
    • Experience working in empowered Product Teams, in close collaboration with Product Management and UX are a big plus
    • Good understanding of the many unique engineering challenges in a continuously changing mobile engineering landscape.
    • Solid knowledge about tooling, frameworks, and technologies required to build mobile apps at scale.
    • Experience with A/B testing and experimentation platforms.
