Platform Engineer - Developer Platform

Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Platform Products – Platform Engineering /
Hybrid
We build the internal developer portal that improves how engineers discover, use, and interact with platform capabilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and evolve our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) with a strong focus on developer experience and productivity

  • Develop and extend our Backstage-based developer portal as the central interface for engineering teams

  • Build and maintain integrations and plugins that connect platform services into a seamless self-service experience

  • Design and implement scalable, developer-facing features using TypeScript and React—focusing on usability, workflows, and real engineering needs

  • Work closely with platform and infrastructure teams to expose capabilities through the portal

  • Improve developer workflows across service creation, deployment, observability, and operations

  • Contribute to shaping the overall developer experience, not just UI—thinking in terms of systems, workflows, and adoption

  • Explore opportunities to introduce automation and AI-driven features to improve developer productivity

What You’ll Need

  • 1–4 years of software engineering experience, ideally working on developer platforms, internal tools, or engineering productivity
  • Experience building or contributing to internal developer portals, platform tooling, or developer-facing systems (not just user-facing apps)

  • Strong experience with TypeScript and React, applied to complex, data-driven applications

  • Understanding of software development lifecycle, CI/CD, and how developers build and operate services

  • Ability to think beyond frontend—connecting UI to backend services, workflows, and real-world engineering use cases

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Backstage or similar developer portal frameworks

  • Experience building developer tools such as CLIs, SDKs, or automation workflows

  • Familiarity with AI/LLM-based tools, agents, or developer productivity enhancements

  • Exposure to cloud platforms, infrastructure, or platform engineering practices

TomTom is an equal opportunity employer

TomTom is where you can find your place in the world. Every day we welcome, nurture and celebrate differences. Why? Because your uniqueness is what makes you, you. No matter your culture or background, you’ll find your impact at TomTom. Research also shows that sometimes women and underrepresented communities can be hesitant to apply for positions unless they believe they meet 100% of the criteria. If you can relate to this, please know that we’d love to hear from you.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
