Chief Operating Officer – Group Technology /
Technology & Data /
Hybrid

Are you an experienced Technical Project Lead with a strong background in data platforms, data warehousing, and data engineering? Join us in driving complex data migration and modernization initiatives, including the transition from legacy and mainframe environments to modern cloud-based data platforms as part of the broader CDS transformation, including FR360 and BIW.

SEB is more than a bank. We are a technology-driven financial institution where everything starts from our customer needs and business outcomes. Cloud, AI, automation and modern engineering are natural parts of how we build, operate and continuously improve our technology platforms. From core banking platforms to hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, platform engineering, AI-enabled operations and automation, we offer a broad tech landscape and many paths to grow. Together, we are shaping secure, responsible and future-proof solutions for our customers and society. Are you ready to take on a new challenge?

About the role

As Technical Project Lead, you will play a central role in coordinating and driving strategic data transformation initiatives within SEB’s Finance and Risk area.

You will lead complex technical projects related to data migration, platform modernization, and the transition from legacy and mainframe-based solutions to modern cloud-based data platforms. The role includes supporting the broader CDS transformation, including the continued development of FR360 and the transformation of BIW.

FR360 is SEB’s Finance & Risk Data Platform. The platform is being developed into a modern, scalable, and audit-ready enterprise data warehouse that supports the reliable integration of more than 200 source systems. It provides trusted, traceable, and historically consistent data for Finance and Risk use cases in a regulated banking environment.

You will work closely with data engineers, architects, technical specialists, product owners, business stakeholders, and teams across Finance, Risk, and Group Technology. Your responsibility will be to create structure and transparency across technical deliveries, coordinate dependencies, manage risks, and ensure that transformation initiatives move from planning to successful implementation.

This is a hands-on leadership role. While you will not necessarily develop the technical solutions yourself, you need sufficient technical depth to understand data architectures, migration approaches, integration patterns, and engineering challenges. You should be comfortable facilitating technical decisions, challenging assumptions, and translating complex technical matters into clear plans and decision material for stakeholders and management.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead complex technical initiatives within data migration, data warehousing, and platform modernization.

  • Drive the transition from legacy and mainframe-based environments to modern cloud-based data platforms.

  • Coordinate deliveries connected to the broader CDS transformation, including FR360 and BIW.

  • Establish clear project scope, objectives, milestones, delivery plans, and governance.

  • Coordinate technical dependencies across platforms, systems, development teams, and business areas.

  • Work closely with architects and engineers to understand migration strategies, target architectures, technical constraints, and implementation risks.

  • Ensure alignment between business requirements, technical solutions, regulatory expectations, and delivery plans.

  • Identify, assess, and manage technical risks, delivery risks, dependencies, and impediments.

  • Facilitate technical workshops, planning sessions, architecture discussions, and decision-making forums.

  • Prepare clear status reports, decision material, roadmaps, and management communication.

  • Coordinate stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Group Technology, and involved source and consuming systems.

  • Support the planning and execution of data migrations, testing, cutover, operational readiness, and decommissioning of legacy solutions.

  • Promote structured ways of working, transparency, collaboration, and accountability across participating teams.

  • Ensure that documentation, traceability, governance, and audit requirements are considered throughout the transformation.

To thrive in this role, we believe you have

  • Several years of experience leading complex technical projects or transformation initiatives.

  • A strong background in data platforms, data warehousing, data integration, or data engineering.

  • Experience with data migration and modernization of legacy or mainframe-based environments.

  • A solid understanding of modern data architecture, data pipelines, data modelling, and cloud-based data platforms.

  • Experience coordinating deliveries across several systems, teams, and organizational areas.

  • The ability to understand technical challenges and translate them into concrete plans, priorities, risks, and decisions.

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with engineers, architects, business representatives, and senior management.

  • Experience identifying and managing complex technical dependencies and delivery risks.

  • A structured and pragmatic approach, with the ability to create clarity in large and technically complex initiatives.

  • Strong facilitation, planning, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience using AI-powered tools to improve engineering, operations or automation workflows, either professionally or through personal projects.
  • Professional proficiency in English.

It is beneficial if you also have

  • Experience from banking, finance, or another regulated industry.

  • Experience with Finance and Risk data, regulatory reporting, or large-scale enterprise data platforms.

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, including services such as BigQuery, Cloud Composer/Airflow, and Dataform/DBT.

  • Knowledge of enterprise data warehouse concepts, Data Vault 2.0, data lineage, historization, metadata, and data quality.

  • Experience working with batch-based or mainframe data flows and their migration to cloud-native solutions.

  • Experience with system decommissioning, cutover planning, and operational transition.

  • Knowledge of regulatory and governance requirements within data management, such as BCBS 239.

  • Experience working in agile delivery environments and coordinating several agile teams.

  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Personal qualities

  • We are looking for someone who combines technical understanding with strong leadership and communication skills.

  • You are comfortable taking ownership and moving complex initiatives forward, even when all details are not yet known. You create structure, bring the right people together, and make dependencies and decisions visible. You are collaborative and pragmatic, but you are also prepared to challenge unclear requirements, unrealistic plans, and unresolved technical risks.

  • You can move confidently between technical discussions and management communication, adapting the level of detail to the audience while maintaining focus on the overall objective.

What we offer

  • Agile and modern ways of working.

  • A flat hierarchy and an open environment where ideas, opinions, and different points of view are welcomed.

  • Extensive training and learning opportunities.

  • The opportunity to work at an innovative company at the forefront of technology.

  • The opportunity to contribute to a major transformation of SEB’s Finance and Risk data landscape.

  • A hybrid working model, with the possibility of working remotely up to two days per week.
