We are hiring a Commodities Analyst with a focus on metals to join SEB’s Strategy & Economic Research team within the Corporate & Investment Banking division.

 

We are looking for a candidate with a minimum of five years’ experience in physical or financial metals markets to help further expand our metals research. We expect both our research activities and the business more broadly to be significantly influenced and transformed by AI over the coming years. We therefore prefer a candidate with strong technical skills and an educational background that will enable them to contribute to, leverage and support this transition.

 

SEB’s Strategy & Economic Research team is the top-ranked macro, FX, fixed income and commodities research team in the Nordics. The team consists of around 20 economists, analysts and strategists based in Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki and Singapore. It serves the macroeconomic research, analysis and strategy needs of a broad range of markets, products and regions, supporting internal stakeholders - such as the Commodities department - as well as clients and the media.

 

The Commodities department comprises around 25 sales, traders and quants, of whom 15 are based in Stockholm. Commodities is part of SEB Markets, which offers fixed income, currency and commodity solutions to SEB’s corporate and institutional clients. SEB Markets is one of the leading franchises in Northern Europe, providing innovative and trusted access to global financial markets.

 

About the role

Your primary role as a Commodities analyst is to support SEB’s corporate commodities business in various ways. Our business is highly client focused. Client needs and market conditions are normally in constant change, and our analytical focus is often changing with it. Production and publication of standing, periodical reports and further developments of these is one part. Ad-hoc research is also important amid a myriad of requests from our clients. You will work in close cooperation with our commodities salespeople at the different SEB sites and some traveling to the various sites in northern Europe is to be expected. Physical and electronic meetings are an important part of the job. You will also be part of SEB’s wider Strategy and Economic Research team with partial deliveries and cooperation.

 

The role is based in Stockholm on SEB’s trading floor, but you will have frequent interactions with colleagues and stakeholders from all around the world.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

• Further development of our research processes, data management and advisory tools.
• Commodity market research, exposure analysis, and relevant hedging strategies.
• Working closely with Commodities salespeople and their efforts to support our clients
• Working closely with the rest of Strategy & Economic Research to include commodity in the wider macro views.

 

To thrive in this role, we believe you

• Have minimum five years’ work experience from physical or financial metals markets
• Have an analytical mindset with a strong, technical capability
• Have a university degree in engineering/math/statistics/data science or similar
• Have an interest in financial markets and commodities in particular
• Have a keen interest in AI, and some ideas of how it can bring our research forward
• Are creative in finding solutions and ways of utilizing your skillset and the tools available
