General Maintenance Technician

The General Maintenance Mechanic inspects, installs, and maintains electrical systems, machinery, and equipment. Ensures all work performed meets safety codes and is properly inspected. Use a variety of tools or equipment. Has at least two to three years of journeyman-level electrical experience. Typically requires a state electrician license. They also assist with day-to-day preventive maintenance, office moves, building, grounds, and equipment installation projects. Performs maintenance service and repairs in plumbing, carpentry, painting, pneumatics, and machine and electrical servicing for the organization’s facilities.

Essential Functions

  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Recognizes maintenance problems and responds quickly to resolve them.
  • Performs preventative maintenance work on a variety of industrial equipment.
  • Performs electrical, commercial plumbing, and pneumatic repairs and installations as required.
  • Inspects, installs, and maintains electrical systems, machinery, and equipment.
  • Assists with managing the fire alarm and security system.
  • Works closely with line production management to ensure the least "downtime" for material equipment. Plans and coordinates schedules around production time and requirements.
  • Identifies HVAC system problems and coordinates repairs with outside service providers.
  • Performs fire extinguisher inspections and assists with fire pump and generator tests.
  • Is available for on-call responsibilities as needed every 6 or 7 weeks.
  • Must live within a 45-minute commute for on-call duty.
  • Available at work 6:00 a.m.- 2:45 p.m., Monday- Friday, and weekends when necessary.
  • Okay with Heights and hot/cold environments

  • Journeyman or Master electrical license is preferred (4 years of experience required)

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work environment

The work environment characteristics described here represent those employees encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a warehouse environment with elevated noise, dust, and activity. This is a non-temperature-controlled warehouse where temperatures can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. There is frequent exposure to moving parts.

 

Physical Demands

Physical ability is essential in this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to climb ladders to extreme heights and occasionally lift and/or move items over 40 pounds.

 

Travel required. No travel required.

 

Required education and experience.

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least five years of experience in the field or a related area of electrical. License is preferred.
  • Familiar with various fields’ concepts, practices, and procedures pertaining to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, painting, and pneumatics.
  • Journeyman or Master electrical license is preferred (4 years of experience required).

$27 - $31 biweekly
 

6:00 a.m.- 2:45 p.m., Monday- Friday, and weekends when necessary.
