We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer with a strong passion for mechanical and electromechanical systems. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative team environment and possesses mechanical aptitude beyond the workplace. This role requires above-average to excellent 3D modeling skills using SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar software, along with competency in ASTM drafting standards, including GD&T. Proficiency in FEA and motion analysis software is preferred. The candidate must demonstrate strong engineering judgment and problem-solving skills to develop creative, robust, and cost-effective design solutions. Responsibilities include researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, as well as overseeing fabrication, installation, operation, evaluation, and repair processes.
Essential Functions
- Research and develop design concepts to develop new products or solve problems with current production equipment.
- Interacts with other engineers and technicians as needed to design and develop new products such as controls, robots, machines, and new mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems.
- Assists engineering personnel in fabricating test control apparatus and equipment and developing methods and procedures for testing products or systems in conjunction with the test lab.
- Prepares or directs the preparation of product or system layouts, detailed drawings, manuals, and schematics.
- Analyzes test data and reports to determine if the design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Actively seeks input and critique on assigned design projects while providing insight and critique to other engineers’ design projects in a professional, collaborative manner with the goal of achieving the best design before prototyping.
- Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
- Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and specifications.
- Designs products and systems to interface with machines, hardware, and software.
- Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
- Stays updated on competitive developments, new materials, and methods as background for design approaches.
- Uses a breadth of knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials to develop robust design solutions: sheet metal, metal fab, welding, brazing, plating, finishing, forging, casting, stamping, sintering, extrusion, machining, plastics, injection molding, cast urethanes, 3D printing, thermoforming, compression molding, fiberglass, plywood, etc.
- The position will not have direct reports.
- Ability to comprehend design proposals, specifications, and manuals to develop new products and solutions.
- Competency in mathematics, including trigonometry, geometry, and calculus, with the ability to apply mathematics to solve engineering problems.
- Familiarity with metal-to-plastic conversion redesigns, cost-reduction or cost-avoidance redesigns of existing products, and re-sourcing components for cost reduction that require drawing or design changes to meet new vendor processes and capabilities.
- Excellent organizational skills to track multiple tasks while maintaining focus on the top priorities and bringing all tasks to timely fruition.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, patents, and legal documents. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or others.
- Proficiency in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a general office environment where typical levels of noise, dust and activity can be expected. - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items in excess of 50 pounds.
- This position requires travel several times per year throughout the U.S. and rarely internationally for a duration from 1 day to 1 week, rarely more.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from a four-year college or university; and a minimum of 8 years of experience in machine design or a related field in a manufacturing/equipment environment where one may have designed, developed, and tested all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.
- Experience applying engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc.

$95,000 - $100,000 a year
