We are seeking an Advanced Optics Engineer in our Broomfield, CO, location. 

Key Responsibilities:

    • Closely collaborate with a team of optical scientists, engineers, and technicians supporting the development of advanced optical systems for commercial and research quantum computing.
    • Assemble, integrate and test (AI&T), ship, and deploy optical systems including characterization of lasers, Acousto-Optic Modulators (AOM’s) and Electro-Optic Modulators (EOM’s), active optical components and optical systems.
    • Generate test protocols, characterization reports, requirements documents reviews, requirements modification requests, quality inspection checklist reviews and quality inspection sign offs.
    • Perform optical phase noise measurements and low phase noise laser system characterization and frequency/phase noise locking of lasers to reference cavities, combs, and/or other optical references including AI&T of low phase noise beamlines with recommendations for improvements
    • Generate optical subsystem build and test procedures for new employee onboarding and interns for effective handoffs.
    • The ideal candidate will be a substantial and consistent contributor to optical subsystem design revisions, design reviews, subsystem team meetings, new documentation, new procedures, and recommendations for design maturity and producibility.

YOU MUST HAVE:

    • Bachelor's Degree minimum
    • Minimum 4+ years’ experience (advanced degree inclusive) using, measuring, and maintaining optical, opto-mechanical, and/or laser systems
    • Minimum 2+ years of experience locking lasers to optical reference cavities, combs, and/or other frequency references including phase, frequency, and amplitude noise measurements, analysis, closed-loop system design and optimization for low noise performance
    • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
    • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.

WE VALUE:

    • Ph.D. or Masters in Optics, Physics, Applied Physics, or related field preferred
    • Experience collaborating with a team of scientists and engineers to complete well-defined projects as well as broader research initiatives
    • Opto-Mechanical custom design including active components (such as Acousto-Optic modulators/Deflectors) including presentations to system stakeholders
    • A demonstrated history of mentoring junior scientists and near-peer colleagues
    • Broad understanding of optical principles and practices and intimate knowledge and experience applying this knowledge to projects
    • Experience working with program management to track cost, schedule and technical milestones
    • Experience with fiber-optic fusion splicing
    • Experience with data analysis (measuring, plotting, analyzing, fitting and interpreting relevant data from optical testing experiments)
    • Experience with engineering change documentation; ability to work from assembly drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, sketches and other written, visual and oral instructions
    • Experience with lens design principles, scattered/stray light analysis and software tools such as Zemax, Code V, and/or Oslo
    • Opto-mechanical design in CAD software such as Onshape, SolidWorks and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) experience
$124,000 - $165,000 a year
Compensation & Benefits:

The pay range for this role is $124,000– $165,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate’s skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
