We are seeking a highly qualified Hardware Researcher - Commercial Quantum Computing to join our physics team at our new lab in metro-Tokyo area. This team is responsible for testing, upgrading, and operating commercial quantum computers. This role comprises individual technical contribution to both our commercial operations and technology development. As such, candidates will boast a broad and deep understanding in quantum computing or atomic/molecular/optical (AMO) physics. 
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Operate, maintain, and upgrade commercial quantum computers with other peer scientists and engineers.
    • Collaborate with an international team of scientist and engineers in the development and testing of new quantum computing hardware and algorithms
    • Perform and guide efforts in conceptualizing, developing, designing, assembling, and validating advanced quantum computers and their component systems
    • Support R&D manager to meet programmatic performance, schedule, cost, and quality commitments

YOU MUST HAVE

    • 2 or more years of post-graduate experience developing atomic/molecular/optical (AMO) /or QC systems
    • Applicants for employment for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in Japan.
    • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate technical topics in both English and Japanese
    • Ability to travel abroad for training and other business requirement.
    • Valid authorization to work in Japan, such as Research visa, Japan citizenship, etc.

WE VALUE

    • Proven expertise in AMO physics and/or Quantum Computing
    • Experience with design or operation of a device for quantum information processing
    • Experience utilizing electro-optical laboratory equipment (e.g., beam profilers, wavemeters, acousto- and electro-optical modulators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers)
    • Experience using and maintaining laser systems
    • Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms
    • Experience with cryogenics and ultra-high vacuum systems
    • Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments
    • Working knowledge of Python for system control, system testing, and data analysis
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results within their field of research.
