Senior Backend Engineer Go, AI platform
Who We Are
Prosus is a leading global technology company, based in Europe. With ecosystems that span India, Latin America, Europe and beyond, Prosus is the power behind some of the world’s leading lifestyle ecommerce brands. We own and invest in a portfolio of 100+ companies in sectors such as in food delivery, quick commerce, fintech and experiences, all of which help billions of people buy, sell and transact every day.
We connect these leading brands through our AI-driven ecosystem that leverages data to deliver seamless, personalised lifestyle-ecommerce experiences for buyers and sellers, reshaping exceptional service for our two billion customers. Few companies can connect people and problem-solve across borders, as we do.
Through our Ventures business we also invest in companies which inspire and support the Prosus ecosystem. We search for new opportunities at the leading edge of AI and ecommerce, the digital AI workforce and in frontier technologies, such as robotics, drones and synbio.
The Opportunity
Toqan is Prosus's internal AI platform — the infrastructure and tooling layer that powers AI-driven products across the entire group. The team is expanding into new product territory, and this role sits at the centre of that expansion: owning the design and delivery of MCP (Model Context Protocol) server infrastructure and multi-model LLM integrations in production.
This isn't a maintenance role. You'll be building something new — MCP server infrastructure that doesn't yet exist — and connecting it to a growing roster of AI and LLM providers so that Toqan products can move fast without sacrificing reliability. The measure of success is concrete: MCP servers live and serving at least two new Toqan products within twelve months, alongside measurable gains in backend service reliability and deployment frequency.
The Toqan platform serves the whole Prosus portfolio, which means the backend systems you build here have reach far beyond a single product team. You'll join a 10-person engineering team in Amsterdam and work closely with product and platform colleagues to ship end-to-end — at pace, without compromising quality.
Who You Are
You are a senior backend engineer who has moved well past following patterns and into setting them. You're comfortable owning architectural decisions on novel infrastructure — the kind where the right answer isn't obvious and the stakes are real. You think in systems, spot failure modes early, and hold a high bar for production quality without letting perfect block good. The 80/20 mindset comes naturally: you know when to go deep and when to ship.
You've likely come from a startup or high-velocity environment where shipping fast wasn't a culture slogan — it was survival. You know how to cut scope without cutting corners, move from zero to production without a safety net, and iterate quickly on systems that are still finding their shape.
You're genuinely curious about the AI and LLM space — not as a trend to track, but as a domain where you've already done hands-on integration work and want to go further. AI tools aren't an afterthought in how you work — you use them daily, whether that's Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or OpenAI Codex, and you've developed real judgment about where they accelerate work and where they don't. You operate with low ego, share context freely, and thrive in an environment where autonomy and accountability go hand in hand. Ambiguity doesn't slow you down — it's where you do your best work.
What You Bring

-
Hands-on AWS experience — designing, deploying, and operating cloud-native services at scale
-
Direct experience building MCP servers or working with Model Context Protocol in a real integration context
-
Practical experience integrating with multiple AI and LLM providers in production, translating model capabilities into robust backend systems
-
Comfortable owning CI/CD pipelines, automated test infrastructure (unit, integration, E2E), and build systems
-
Proven track record of collaborating across product and platform teams to ship features end-to-end
-
Systems-level thinking — you design for reliability, scalability, and performance from the start, not as an afterthought
-
Background in startups or fast-moving product teams where you owned outcomes end-to-end and shipped without waiting for perfect conditions
-
Active use of AI coding assistants (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or similar) as part of your regular workflow — not occasionally, but as a genuine productivity multiplier
-
Experience building and maintaining event-sourced systems is a plus
-
Python programming skills are a plus
-
Experience using Generative AI and ML infrastructure tooling to drive measurable improvements in engineering efficiency is a plus
Your Typical Day
Your day might begin by reviewing the state of the MCP server infrastructure — checking integration health across AI model providers, triaging any overnight alerts, and picking up where yesterday's design work left off. You're deep in Go for much of the morning: building out a new server endpoint, tightening an integration with an LLM provider, or pairing with a teammate on a tricky reliability edge case — with AI coding tools alongside you, cutting the time from idea to working code.
Mid-morning, you might sync with product and platform colleagues to align on what's shipping next — translating requirements into backend architecture decisions and flagging dependencies early. In the afternoon, you're often in the CI/CD pipeline or test infrastructure, improving deployment confidence so the team can move faster without breaking things.
Throughout the day, you're a thinking partner for the broader 10-person engineering team — sharing context, reviewing code, and applying AI tooling where it genuinely accelerates the work.
