About Finom

Finom is a European tech startup headquartered in Amsterdam, and we’re on a journey towards revolutionizing the financial landscape for entrepreneurs worldwide. Our mission is to develop an all-in-one financial B2B solution that integrates banking functions, accounting, financial management, and invoicing into a seamless, mobile-first platform.

We recently closed a €115 million Series C equity round (around $133 million), bringing our total funding to approximately $346 million. This significant investment follows a $105 million growth funding round from General Catalyst, a long-term backer since 2021 known for supporting companies like Airbnb, HubSpot, KAYAK, and Stripe.

Finom's platform goes beyond traditional banking, offering invoicing and a growing suite of features, including AI-enabled accounting, aiming to simplify financial management for entrepreneurs. We're actively expanding our reach across key EU markets like Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain.

At Finom, we’re not just redefining the entrepreneurial experience — we’re empowering our employees to make a real difference. Your work matters, and your impact extends far beyond product metrics. We nurture innovation and an inspiring work environment where bold ideas thrive, prioritizing thorough research, swift implementation of solutions, and ensuring that every effort we make benefits our users, employees, partners, and our business as a whole.

Maintaining our start-up spirit, we prioritize thorough research, swift implementation of solutions, and ensuring that every effort we make benefits our users, employees, partners, and, of course, our business.

Anti-Fraud Investigator (2nd LoD)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Anti-Fraud Investigator to join Finom Payments’ Second Line of Defence within the Financial Crime Risk Management Function. This role is pivotal in identifying complex fraud patterns and assessing evolving threats to ensure our fraud framework remains robust and effective.

Sitting in the 2nd line, you will delve deep into data to discover new trends, challenge existing mechanisms, and propose advanced prevention and detection controls. You will serve as a subject matter expert, guiding our 1st line analysts and influencing the strategic direction of our anti-fraud roadmap to mitigate risks while supporting business growth.

What You Will Be Doing

Fraud Investigation & Strategy

  • Identify and analyze fraud incidents and trends using internal and external data to pinpoint anomalies and emerging threats.

  • Drive improvements in key risk indicators, such as fraud rates, while ensuring account closure and decline rates remain within acceptable business parameters.

  • Proactively discover and document new fraud typologies and patterns to enrich Finom’s Fraud Typology Library.

  • Serve as a 2nd Line challenger, providing oversight and independent analysis on complex fraud decisions taken by the 1st Line.

  • Enhance the precision of fraud detection and prevention controls while optimizing alert volumes to maintain operational efficiency.

System & Process Development

  • Make continuous changes to Finom’s antifraud mechanisms, rules, and machine-learning signals.

  • Assist in drafting, testing, and reviewing system requirements for internal anti-fraud tools and features.

  • Initiate and lead ad-hoc project work aimed at improving fraud loss prevention and operational efficiency

  • Partner with external providers to drive the continuous improvement of fraud detection mechanisms, ensuring vendor solutions align with business risk appetite and evolving fraud trends

Stakeholder Management & Team Collaboration

  • Establish effective communication with Product teams to translate fraud risks into actionable business requirements.

  • Provide guidance, training, and best practices to 1st Line analysts responsible for reviewing anti-fraud signals.

  • Collaborate with Risk Managers and QA teams to implement and monitor the effectiveness of detection mechanisms.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 2+ years of professional experience in anti-fraud, financial crime, or risk management within Fintech or Banking.

  • Hands-on experience with Fraud Management Systems and the end-to-end implementation of fraud rules.

  • Thorough knowledge of transactional and behavioral fraud typologies (e.g., Identify Theft, ATO, social engineering, payment fraud).

  • Proficiency in data analysis using SQL and BI tools; Python experience is a strong advantage.

  • Strong ability to make independent decisions and thrive in a fast-paced, scaling team environment.

Interpersonal Skills

FINOM strongly rejects the “Compliance says No” mindset. We look for individuals who:

  • Think like a risk partner, balancing effective mitigation with business enablement.

  • Are comfortable challenging assumptions and proposing pragmatic, data-driven solutions.

  • Can communicate complex fraud risks in simple, business-friendly language to diverse stakeholders.
