Reconciliation & Reporting Process Owner (Remote)
Reconciliation & Reporting Process Owner
Location: Poland, Spain or other European countries considered - remote
Are you the person who builds the tool instead of doing the manual task twice? Do you look at a repetitive reconciliation process and immediately start sketching the automation that kills it? Are you as comfortable in SQL and a BI tool as you are talking through control design with Finance?
We are looking for a Reconciliation & Reporting Process Owner to join our Operations team in Amsterdam. This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who has already done reconciliation the hard way and now wants to build the systems that make it fast, scalable, and self-monitoring — including for more complex domains like investment reconciliation. You will be expected to take ownership and autonomously drive change.
You will...
- Own the Architecture — Design, build, and continuously improve reconciliation processes across SEPA, SWIFT, and card payment flows, end to end, not just the parts that are already easy.
- Go Beyond Standard Payments — Extend reconciliation capability into more complex, less standardised areas such as investment and portfolio reconciliation, working with external data providers where needed.
- Own Reporting, Not Just Reconciliation — Build and automate vendor and regulatory reports, the same way you automate reconciliation processes, and make sure those reports tie back to and reconcile with the underlying dataset used in reconciliation.
- Build in Data Quality — Design validations that catch data quality issues at the source.
- Automate Relentlessly — Identify manual, repetitive reconciliation steps and eliminate them, using internal tooling, scripting, or external platforms as appropriate. If a process is still manual after you've looked at it, that's a problem you're expected to solve.
- Build the Dashboards — Design and build reconciliation reporting and monitoring dashboards using data visualisation tools, giving the business real-time visibility into breaks, aging items, and process health.
- Drive Process Improvement — Treat every recurring discrepancy or KRI breach as a signal for a structural fix, not a one-off ticket; propose and implement the fix yourself.
- Be the Expert — Act as the internal subject-matter authority on reconciliation data and tooling, someone others come to rather than someone who waits for direction.
- Work Autonomously — Take a problem from vague description to shipped solution with minimal oversight, prioritising and sequencing your own work.
- Have Worked in a Regulated Financial Institution — Experience at a bank, EMI, or payments institution, with the process and control discipline that comes with regulatory oversight.
You should...
- Have real reconciliation experience — 5+ years working directly in reconciliation, payments operations, or a closely related financial operations role; you've felt the pain you're now being asked to automate away.
- Be strong in SQL — Write and optimise SQL comfortably.
- Be fluent in data tooling — Hands-on experience with data visualisation/BI tools (e.g. Databricks, Metabase, Tableau, or similar) and comfortable picking up new ones.
- Build with AI, not around it — Comfortable using AI tools to speed up automation, improve processes and reporting work, and always looking for where AI can replace a manual step.
- Think like an engineer about process — Naturally decompose a manual workflow into steps that can be automated, and have a track record of actually doing so.
- Be genuinely autonomous — Thrive with minimal supervision, make sound judgment calls independently, and take ownership of outcomes rather than tasks.
- Communicate with authority — Explain technical and numerical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Finance.
- Have an appetite for complexity — Not intimidated by complex payment infrastructures or intricate money flows, including investment portfolio reconciliation, and eager to build scalable solutions for them rather than work around them.
It would be a bonus if you...
- Have experience with investment or portfolio reconciliation specifically, or exposure to investment accounting/reporting platforms (e.g. Clearwater, Advent/SS&C).
- Have built automation using Python or similar scripting languages.
- Have worked with external reconciliation or data providers as part of a vendor integration.
- Have worked in a mutual fund (or similar collective investment scheme) back-office and driven automation there.
- Have hands-on experience reconciling positions, valuations, and P&L against external asset managers or fund administrators, including building the automated workflows to do it.
