A little about Opencast
Are you interested in a future career in the technology space?
If so, completing a work experience placement at Opencast could be the place for you!
Opencast is a highly skilled and fast-growing technology consultancy. We offer a range of services such as: software development, architecture, product delivery and user centred design to ensure our clients can deliver user friendly products and services to their customers.
We work with a range of clients across government / public, finance, green energy, and healthcare sectors.
Our work experience placements
Our work experience placements are aimed at individuals that are keen to pursue a career in the technology space. We want to give you a taste of what life is like working within a fast-growing technology consultancy, by exploring the different areas of our business, and meeting Opencast people will inspire and help you to identify what path you may wish to take in your future career.
During your placement you will get the opportunity to explore the following services:
· Software Development
· Product Delivery
· User Centred Design
Please review the services section of our website to learn more about these areas of the business - we want to know if there is one area that interests you most, so we can give you more exposure during your placement!
The next placement for young people in full time education will be 22nd - 26th July 2024.
The next placement for adults will be 14th - 18th October 2024.
Duration of placement
· 2 or 5 days (Monday to Friday) - unpaid work experience placement
Who can apply?
Our work experience placements are aimed at school or college pupils, young adults and job seekers aged 16 and over, and older adults who are looking to make a career move into the technology sector.
To be considered you might identify as one of the following:
· In full-time education (currently studying in years 11- 13)
· A job seeker
· An individual looking to change your current career or re-join the workforce.
What you will be doing:
· Learn about Opencast, what we do, our culture and our people.
· Spend time with our Talent Engagement team to learn how to get the best from your CV and how to interview for roles in the tech space.
· Question and Answer sessions with consultants across all our technical teams, including Software Development, User Centred Design (UCD), Quality Assurance, Business Analysis, Project Management and more.
· Learn about Agile Methodologies.
· Try your hand at Raspberry Pi coding and coding Sphero Robots.
· Take part in a User Centred Design workshop, looking at how users engage with a product or service and how we use this data to make improvements.

· You will experience working alongside and gaining insights from people who already work in the tech sector.
· An opportunity to explore different areas of the business and identify what interests you most.
· Take part in work related tasks which develop employability skills, such as communication, problem solving and team working.
· Gain an understanding of employer needs, such as reliability, time keeping, punctuality.
· Once completed, your work experience can be added to your CV to support with future job and course applications.
Where you’ll work
All work experience placements are based in our HQ in Newcastle. We only encourage you to apply if you are able to commute to our office for the full duration of the placement.
