The role 

The Accounts Payable Assistant is responsible for supporting the efficient and accurate processing of supplier invoices, payments, and reconciliations. The role plays a key part in maintaining strong supplier relationships and ensuring that financial records are complete, accurate, and compliant with internal controls and statutory requirements.

·       Process supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring correct coding and authorisation
·       Match invoices to purchase orders and resolving discrepancies where required
·       Prepare and process weekly and monthly payment runs
·       Maintain and reconcile supplier statements, investigating and resolving queries promptly
·       Set up and maintain supplier accounts, including bank detail verification
·       Handle supplier queries via email and telephone in a professional and courteous manner
·       Support month‑end close activities, including accruals and reconciliations
·       Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation as required
·       Ensure compliance with company policies, VAT rules, and financial controls
·       Contribute to process improvements within the accounts payable function

 

Essential experience  

·       Previous experience in an accounts payable or finance administration role
·       Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
·       Good numeracy skills and confidence working with financial data
·       Experience using accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
·       Ability to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines
 
 
Desirable experience
 
·       Experience with ERP or accounting systems such as Workday, Sage, SAP, or similar
·       Understanding of VAT and purchase ledger processes
·       Studying or interested in studying AAT or a similar finance qualification

Salary

£27,000 - £34,000
