We are actively seeking an enthusiastic and devoted Senior Engineer, Fluidics Integration to join our pioneering team and help develop next-generation automated microscopy workflows. This role will report to the Director of Hardware and is based in our San Diego office.

    • Own projects within technical roadmap, from conception to completion and transfer to manufacturing
    • Develop fluidics automation systems and interfacing consumables, including flow channels, subsystems, and components
    • Characterize fluidics systems, including metrology, flow profile, pressure, leakage and materials interaction
    • Create diagrams of fluidics circuits and prototypes of products to be examined, tested, and refined
    • Evaluate reagent exchange and kinetic interactions through modeling and experimentation
    • Prototype and integrate components with instrument control systems, including through programming device controllers for PoC/prototype testing
    • Design and execute integration studies for designed consumables alongside product development, demonstrating proof-of-concept, feasibility and full system integration
    • Design and execute V&V testing, as well as component and sub-system testing through each phase of development
    • Produce and present technical reports of experimental results for review
    • Support development of secondary assembly processes and manufacturing scale-up
    • Collaborate with chemists, biologists, and applications experts on the development of consumables that meet specific customer needs
    • Collaborate with software engineers on the design and automation of fluidics and complete workflows
    • Assist in the identification and selection of vendors for critical system components and materials
    • Establish critical parameters and tolerances for raw materials, custom components, and subassemblies to inform manufacturing and quality processes

Required Skills and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years or advanced degree with 3+ years of industry experience
    • Experience designing and integrating automation and control systems into fluidic systems and components/consumables/platforms
    • Working knowledge of Python
    • Experience using rapid prototyping tools (laser cutting, 3D printing, machining)
    • Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks or Inventor) is preferred
    • Theoretical and practical knowledge base in physics, especially, hydrodynamics, for micro- and macro-scale regime fluidic flow
    • Designed, prototyped, and scaled fluidics system architectures
    • Fluidic design, testing, and automation, using both hydraulic and pneumatic principles
    • Sensor integration, signal processing, and closed-loop control
    • Independently generate rigorous data sets and analyses and drive critical decisions and down-selections
    • Practical biological knowledge to support development of consumables that interface with cells and tissues for scientific analysis
