Reporting to the Chief Data Officer at OLX, you will be responsible for leading and supporting the engineering roles responsible for building capabilities to allow our users to improve user experience with the application of Generative AI.
This transformation is strategic, as it will unlock new experiences on our existing products across our categories (horizontals and verticals) spanning many diverse customer journeys. In the next few years, we expect GenAI will likely transform the way users are buying and selling things across our platforms. OLX is already applying Generative AI to an increasing number of product areas, to simplify the posting flow, rethink the buying experience (evolving from filters to intent-based buying) and enable frictionless, inspiring, and trusted interaction across categories and user segments.
You will have the responsibility to co-lead the product development teams together with the respective Directors of Product, form a technology strategy and architecture vision, as well as the day-to-day delivery of your teams, supporting and enhancing the OLX engineering culture, growing the team and its capabilities and working with your peers to ensure business success.
You will need to partner closely with peers in Data and Design, as we expect to influence our product direction driven by technology trends and innovation. You will work closely with other engineering leads and stakeholders supporting the scale of many capabilities and products. You will be responsible for both large step-change product innovation and continued, high-velocity incremental feature development, helping deliver value to our customers that they happily pay for seamlessly.
Your experience should include leading a relevant, sizable engineering organization within a hyper growth environment - strong leadership skills evidenced by an ability to inspire engineering teams through clear communication and technical excellence. You will need to be up to date with current technologies and tools and feel comfortable with making difficult technical decisions to improve major aspects of our solutions and the user experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and maintain world-class user experience with Generative AI, serving millions of customers
- Lead the Engineers of several related streams, including the Generative AI & ML platform, as well as transversal Generative AI services (video, audio, etc).
- Be part of a broader Product, Data, and Tech community of 800+ people while leading and inspiring a growing team of +25 engineers
- Lead by example. We expect you to be hands-on, in the sense of being able to participate in detailed technical discussions and evaluate technical decisions, as well as provide guidance to members of your team.
- Drive the technology strategy making sure modern techniques and technologies are applied properly
- Be actively involved in leading product innovation driven by technology trends
- Take responsibility for the roadmap and deliverables together with product to drive customer value, conversion, adoption, willingness to pay and revenues
- Lead architectural and system design initiatives in a microservice environment
- Consider buy vs. build decisions and manage strategic partnerships with cloud providers
- Grow your team both personal and professional and create an environment that enables you to attract world-class talent
- Define challenging objectives and key results together with the team and monitor and report progress
- Establish a Tech excellence culture in the stream, in particular to improve reliability, performance and monitoring standards
- Contribute to the wider technology community within OLX
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
- Experience in building and leading engineering teams of +50 engineers
- Vast experience in building scalable products
- Good understanding and ideally successful application of AI/ML
- Deep understanding of building high-traffic, large-scale Internet applications
- Strong technical background and a good understanding of current technology trends
- Experience with microservice architectures in a cloud-based environment (AWS, using Kubernetes and Docker or Serverless)
- Experience in building an engineering culture in an agile, lean & DevOps environment
- Good understanding of lean and agile principles (Kanban, Scrum, Lean Startup)
- Deep understanding of product management and how to partner with product, design and user research
- Experience with continuous delivery focusing on fast release cycles while maintaining quality and measuring technical health
- Experience in working in an international environment and leading teams across multiple locations
- Proven track record of hiring, inspiring, and retaining top-performing engineers
