As the Staff Engineer for the Transactional Experience, you'll get the chance to work with a group of talented people in an international environment, and have the liberty and responsibility of implementing your ideas across multiple teams. You'll work with peers to deliver new capabilities and solidify the current platform, making sure it follows standards of engineering excellence and scales across many markets.
This role can be based anywhere in Poland.
About Supply Teams:
One of the areas of responsibility of Supply teams is helping people around the world to buy or sell in a transparent, fast and secure way. They are responsible for bringing convenience and safety to our users by building a world class Transactional Experience to transform OLX from a Classifieds into an end-to-end Transactional Marketplace business. This includes integrating logistics partners and payment solutions, enabling the creation of checkout & order management experiences, developing a suite of Customer Success tools and more! Our teams are currently architecting and developing a scalable, unified solution that our users expect to have across all OLX markets.
About the job:
As a Staff Engineer for the Transactional Experience, you'll be focused on helping OLX on its journey from a Classifieds to an end-to-end Transactional Marketplace business. You will be working with teams developing OLX's Transactional Experience that covers:
Order management engine and experience
Fulfilment & delivery solutions
Payment solutions
Customer support tooling
You will be working closely with Supply teams to make sure we can scale the Transactional Experience to all existing and new markets in a cost-efficient way, while constantly raising the bar of engineering excellence across the tribe.
You will also work closely with many other engineering and product peers throughout the company to ensure that the overall architecture, environment and the engineering culture of OLX keeps improving in a coherent, consistent and forward-looking way.
Who we're looking for:
Proven experience and impact as a Staff Engineer or in a similar role
Thrives working with cross-functional teams
Passion and hands-on experience in architecting, building, and scaling cloud-based systems, serving millions of users
Strong software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages
Highly skilled in design of large scale distributed systems
Promotes collaboration and communication between teams
Acts as a multiplier by facilitating cross-team work, by shaping broad architecture or helping ship major product pieces / infrastructure / tools
Proactively prioritizes the work they are doing, optimizing for impact, while transparently communicating progress and challenges
Proactively identifies tribe-level opportunities and issues, proposes and executes appropriate solutions to resolve them Influences medium-term technical direction for the tribe in collaboration with their peers and leaders to focus on areas that need attention or improvement
Actively helps Engineers to make design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes and reduce dependencies between teams and services.
Actively sought out by others for advice, and actively seeks out others who would most benefit from help
Listens and guides debates to help reach a decision (acting as a tie-breaker if necessary), then clearly communicates it widely
Builds a culture and environment where product reliability, observability and scalability are part of building any system
What you will be doing:
Facilitate and drive design of the overall Transactional Experience and underlying platform, with long term thinking and a pragmatic approach in mind, making sure that everyone's ideas are considered but acting as a tie-breaker when necessary
Own and be accountable for architectural and engineering decisions that span across multiple teams, while leaving space and encouraging teams to grow the level of ownership of their local decisions
Work closely and hands-on with Supply teams on tackling the most critical and impactful product and technical challenges
Align and coordinate engineering work across multiple teams to maximize the impact for the companyImplement strategic technical decisions across teams and lead initiatives to improve our development process, tools, infrastructure and engineering culture
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to developers and raise the bar for coding standards, software design and delivery process
Contribute to the ongoing architectural & engineering excellence-related work across the OLX EU ecosystem, partnering with other Staff and Principal engineers
Influence and help set tribe-wide vision, direction, and product goals
Partner with Heads of Engineering, Heads of Product and other product peers to align technology solutions with the product vision
Peer with SRE, Security, Data and work with the teams to keep raising our operational standards, reliability, security and data maturity

Base salary + tax deductible costs up to 80% of your salary + annual bonus up to 20% of your annual base salary
