At OLX we enable our customers to buy and sell anything from homes to phones. The person we are looking to hire will help to revamp our current way of managing the core engine of our classified apps and websites: adding, publishing, and modifying ads on our platforms.
While the precise user experience to post an ad may differ between categories (think: posting a vehicle vs. a book) and user types (think: private seller using the app vs. pro seller using bulk uploads), on the back-end, there are systems which determine how this information is received and stored, and systems which make the ads available to our apps and websites for buyers to browse.
We currently have various such systems, and the goal is to unify this capability into one, to make it easier to scale and maintain across our products. The scope for this system is back-end only; it aims to enable our Experience teams to build the very best experiences for our customers, connecting to your service where needed.
This role will sit in the Platform team and report to the Engineering Manager. In Platform, our role is to build systems, tools, platforms, and capabilities to enable all our other product teams to deliver the best possible outcomes for our customers.
As a Software Engineer in our team, you'll be collaborating closely with colleague engineers and SREs, the product team, and an engineering manager while building one of the newest distributed systems we have in the company.
Our systems are built with Kotlin and Spring and they run on AWS.
We value engineers who have:
- Professional experience in software development with Kotlin/Java and Spring
- Passion for architecting, building, and scaling cloud-based systems, serving millions of users
- Ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasksExperience in architecting Cloud Native solutions, AWS is a plus
- Worked in multi-functional international teams
- Believe in self-aligned teams and "you build it, you run it" philosophy
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contribute technically to projects and take part in the planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects
- Be part of a team and establish credibility with the quality of your own and your team’s technical execution
- Encourage the team to innovate, invent, implement, and deploy complex software solutions
- Ask questions, brainstorm, and own the product we are building
