Head of Engineering, Obesity
The role
As Head of Engineering for Obesity, you will lead the engineering organisation responsible for delivering the product experience underpinning Numan’s fastest-growing clinical area, including prescribing journeys, treatment monitoring, patient engagement and clinical workflows that support effective weight management at scale.
You will operate in a fast-paced, regulated environment, where clinical integrity, product quality and speed of execution directly impact patient outcomes and business performance.
Working closely with Product, Design, Clinical and Commercial leaders, you will share accountability for the success of the obesity business, ensuring that engineering delivery supports measurable improvements in patient outcomes, operational efficiency and commercial performance.
You’ll be:
- Accountable for engineering delivery within the obesity product area, ensuring high-quality, reliable and scalable systems that support business and clinical objectives.
- Leading the obesity engineering team, including hiring, coaching and developing engineers, and establishing clear expectations for performance, ownership and quality.
- Ensuring engineering delivery is aligned with product and clinical priorities, maintaining delivery pace, system reliability and appropriate management of technical debt.
- Partnering closely with Product, Design and Clinical to shape solutions early, ensuring technical feasibility, scalability and alignment with business goals.
- Ensuring all systems meet regulatory and clinical safety requirements, including MHRA, CQC, GDPR and DCB0129, working closely with clinical safety leads.
- Contributing to Numan-wide engineering standards, including shared practices, platform decisions and architectural direction.
- Driving the effective use of AI-enabled tools to improve engineering productivity, while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Building a product engineering culture where engineers identify with patient problems, participate in shaping problems, bring product instincts to solutions, and own outcomes end-to-end.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Proven engineering leadership experience in a product-led, high-growth environment, including building and supporting teams that deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Technical depth in at least one core domain, with the ability to make sound architectural and delivery decisions across the stack.
- Experience operating within regulated environments, with a clear understanding of how compliance impacts engineering design and delivery.
- A track record of hiring and developing engineers with strong product and commercial awareness.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with Product, Clinical, Design and Commercial stakeholders.
- Commercial awareness, with the ability to connect engineering decisions to delivery risk, patient outcomes and revenue impact.
- Clear and effective communication, able to represent engineering at senior levels and translate technical decisions into business context.
- A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting continuous development of systems and processes.
It’s a bonus if you have:
- Previous experience in digital health, including familiarity with DCB0129, clinical safety frameworks, or MHRA/CQC environments.
- Experience building products for chronic disease management or long-term treatment programmes (e.g. GLP-1, metabolic health).
- Experience scaling engineering teams through significant increases in product complexity or patient volume.
