The role

Reporting to the CFO, the Head of Legal role will lead the legal, regulatory, data protection, governance, risk and compliance functions at Numan. We are seeking an experienced candidate, motivated by operating best in class functions partnering with the business to ensure strategy is executed in line with legal and regulatory obligations.

The role will report directly into the CFO and will directly line manage 4 direct reports:

• Corporate Counsel
• Data Protection and Compliance Manager
• Regulatory Affairs Manager
• Governance, Risk Management and Compliance Manager

You’ll be:

    • Providing strategic advice and counsel to the senior leadership team, and wider regulated businesses of Numan, on a broad range of matters including commercial contracts, governance, regulatory frameworks, group insurances, risk management and compliance.
    • Holding accountabilities for compliance with regard to MHRA, ASA, GPhC, CQC and ICO requirements.
    • The Data Protection Officer for Numan.
    • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the department, guiding the team on business priorities and developing the functions to provide appropriate advice for the business.
    • Brief and manage external legal relationships with advisors and law firms.
    • Oversee, and advise on, legal aspects of any corporate transactions.
    • Lead on regulatory and compliance projects drawing on the experience of cross functional peers and external experts.
    • Own all statutory healthcare and pharmaceutical compliance reporting for the group.
    • Staying abreast of legal and regulatory developments impacting the regulated businesses.

We’re looking for someone who has:

    • Prior experience working as a Head of Legal before, within start-up or scale-up business.
    • The ability to deliver clear, concise, and commercially focused legal advice that aligns with business objectives and ensuring non-legally minded stakeholders understand, and can act on legal advice.
    • Previously advised on corporate governance, regulatory compliance and intellectual property matters.
    • Exceptional negotiation and contract drafting skills, with experience handling complex commercial agreements, partnerships, and vendor contracts.
    • The ability to distil complex legal matters into actionable business strategies, ensuring non-legal stakeholders understand and can act on legal advice.
    • Experience in managing relationships with external legal partners, including law firms, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
    • Lead and developed a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
    • Experience in crisis management and handling high-stakes situations is beneficial.
    • Demonstrable experience collaborating with commercial peers and executive-level stakeholders, including board members.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong, trust-based relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, from operational teams to C-suite executives.
