Night Veterinary Surgeon – Links Veterinary Group

East Lothian, Scotland | 12-hour night shifts | 4 nights on, 8 nights off | Average 31.75 hours per week

Looking for a role where you can use your emergency and critical care skills while enjoying an excellent work-life balance? Links Veterinary Group is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our established and supportive out-of-hours team in East Lothian.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a vet who enjoys the challenge of emergency work, is confident making clinical decisions overnight and wants to be part of a close-knit team where you'll have the support and facilities to deliver a high standard of patient care.

About the Role

You'll work a 4 nights on, 8 nights off rota, with 12-hour night shifts. The contracted hours are 28.07 hours per week, averaging 31.75 hours per week when holiday cover is included.

Holiday cover will be required, with a 6 nights on, 6 nights off pattern used when covering annual leave.

You'll join a dedicated team of three experienced night Veterinary Surgeons, supported by a skilled nursing team. Our out-of-hours service cares for patients from our own practices as well as a local veterinary practice, giving you a varied and interesting caseload throughout your shifts.

What You'll Be Doing

Working as part of our night team, you'll have the opportunity to manage a broad range of emergency and critical care cases, with the autonomy to make clinical decisions while having an experienced team around you.

Your role will include:

  • Managing emergency and critical care cases overnight
  • Providing high-quality patient care and clinical decision-making
  • Working confidently in a sole-charge environment
  • Performing emergency procedures and surgery where required
  • Monitoring inpatients and responding to changes in their condition
  • Communicating clearly with clients regarding their pets' treatment and ongoing care
  • Working closely with the night nursing team to provide excellent patient care
  • Ensuring appropriate handover to the daytime team

  • Dedicated imaging suite with ultrasound and X-ray
  • Two fully equipped surgical theatres

  • In-house laboratory with rapid diagnostics
  • Dedicated kennel and cattery facilities
  • Observation kennels for close patient monitoring
  • Isolation facilities
