Veterinary Surgeon needed for award winning, fabulous practice in Biddulph, Staffordshire, on the Staffordshire/Cheshire border.

With the lovely Jenny returning to Sweden with her family after 5 years with us, we need to find an equally fabulous vet to fill her shoes.

Hours of Work

Working 20-40 hours a week over 2 to 5 days. No OOH, 1 Saturday in 3 or 6 (8am-1pm) Salary £40-65k (based on 40hr FTE)

We’ve done away with full time and part time hours, we have vets, nurses and receptionists who are all equally part of the team, working a varying number of days and hours.

Whilst this position is for 20-37.5 hours, we can look at alternative patterns that might suit you and enable you to split your hours over 2 to 5 days a week. Full days, short days, split shifts, earlies, lates - we can accommodate most options. Consulting only is just as welcome as those that love surgery or imaging.

Our appointment times are 20 minutes as standard, with 40 minutes for euthanasia / complex issues.

We value your time - our aim is to finish on time, every time, and on the rare occasion it doesn’t happen or you work into your lunch, we will of course give the time back.

We know most people don’t want to do OOH, night checks, Sundays or bank holidays, so we don’t ask you to. Saturday mornings can be 1 in 3 or 1 in 6, alongside 2 receptionists and 2 RVNs and are only 8am - 1pm. But if you love Saturdays or it suits you better – let us know!

We think you deserve to have proper breaks - 2 staff rooms, outside staff area, pool table, massage chair, espresso machine, velvetiser hot chocolate machine, toastie maker if you want to stay in the practice on your break - or head out for a walk, cycle or run and you can use the staff shower when you get back!

About us

We think you should be able to love the environment you work in - there aren’t many practices that look and feel like ours 😊. Dedicated clinical office, 8 consulting rooms, euthanasia room, cat only waiting and ward (Cat friendly silver status), 2 full theatres plus dental theatre and large training room too.  The environment is planned to emphasise wellbeing of staff and patients – large airy reception, consulting, and operating rooms with natural light throughout.

We believe you deserve to be proud of your practice - knowing we provide excellent care, great range and quality of equipment, a knowledgeable team and all for a fair cost to our clients. We were Petplan Practice of the Year 2019, having won 2 previous awards, and our practice manager was a finalist for 2022!

We believe you need less stress - a big stress factor is uncertainty and urgency. By including lots of same-day and emergency slots in the diary, we try to ensure there is time to deal with any “extras” that arise.

We believe you need time to follow up on cases, report results and catch up on your notes. As well as your hour for lunch then is an additional 1hr 40mins of time on the diary each day to make sure you can.

We believe you would like to be part of the team - we all work together to get the job done and provide a great service. We are inclusive and supportive - none of us are perfect but we will try to help however we can. If you want to join in on a pub quiz or come out for a meal that’s great – but if you don’t that’s fine too! We think your opinions and ideas are important – open dialogue and discussion is encouraged for all team members, and we promise to listen and act where we can. We know your work/life balance is vital to your wellbeing – we try to accommodate time off requests whenever possible, to ensure you can get to all those important events in your life. But what do you want - what’s important to you? Maybe we could find out together?

We want a team member that fits with our culture and will insist on spending a day with us (at least) so you can make sure it is right for you.
