At BioAI, we advance healthcare and push the boundaries of medical science through a combination of expertise in biology and machine learning. One key research area is the development of next-generation vaccines and bio-pharmaceuticals for the treatment of cancer and the prevention and therapy of infectious diseases, including COVID-19.
As a Senior Research Engineer, you need to understand both bioinformatics and deep learning to identify the right technologies and set the directions for protein designs to develop new methods and improve existing methods, and validate through wet lab experiments. You will apply your technical, analytical, research, and management skills to collaborate with research engineers and biologists to deliver the designs and refine the methods based on the experiment results. You will also be responsible for writing high-quality, maintainable, well-documented, and modular libraries.

Responsibilities
- Follow the latest developments in machine learning and biology to set research and development directions for protein designs and other relevant challenges.
- Design, implement and deliver performant and scalable algorithms based on state-of-the-art machine learning and neural network methodologies.
- Conduct rigorous data analysis and statistical modelling to evaluate models given experiment outcomes.
- Report results clearly and efficiently, both internally and externally, verbally and in writing.
- Create momentum and manage other engineers or become a go-to expert in one or more technical areas.
- Actively collaborate with the business development team in the pre-sales activities, including but not limited to presenting the company to new prospective clients, writing decks and proposals, participating in calls and meetings, and representing InstaDeep in conferences/events.
Requirements
- Experience in bioinformatics, immunology, proteomics, wet lab experiments, or related scientific fields.
- Experience in deep learning in the industry.
- Experience with management, mentoring, and coaching small to medium teams and/or leading projects.
- A willingness to learn and develop skills in biology including deepening the understanding in immunology.
- Proficiency in software engineering (Python, Pytorch).
- Excellent communication skills in English.
