InstaDeep is looking for an applied research scientist specialised in protein-based biologics design to join our Paris team. In such a position, you will contribute to bridge the gap between fundamental research and real-world implementation by  developing tools dedicated mainly to protein engineering in order to impact challenging applications in immunology, infectious diseases, enzymes, vaccines, biosensors and bio-nanoparticles, etc. In tight collaboration with your colleagues within the company and with partners, you will contribute to new scientific discoveries taking advantage of your unique expertise of both classical molecular modelling approaches and recent advances in machine learning for protein engineering. Specifically, the applied research scientist holds a strong technical, analytical and scientific research skills evidenced by a solid track record of published research on challenges inherent to its domain. Your ability to both conduct research and translate domain knowledge into concrete implementation is essential to the success of your mission.

Responsibilities

    • Design, implement and deliver complex pieces of research and engineering for protein design.
    • Understand and leverage the latest developments in structural bioinformatics and machine learning applications to biologics.
    • Conduct rigorous data analysis and statistical modelling to understand the underlying architecture of biological data and hidden biases in machine learning models.
    • Communicate and collaborate with research engineers in a multi-functional team with an open-minded and research-driven aptitude.
    • Report results clearly and efficiently, both internally and externally, verbally and in writing.
    • Write high-quality, maintainable, and modular code together with concise documentation.

Requirements

    • Master, PhD degree or equivalent experience in Structural Bioinformatics, Machine Learning or related scientific field.
    • A strong foundation in biochemistry, and/or biophysics.
    • Understanding of fundamental principles of molecular biology and  the structure-function relationships of proteins.
    • Hands-on experience with structure prediction tools (like AlphaFold), biological datasets (PDB, Uniprot, etc.), protein language models, homology modelling, molecular modelling, inverse folding tools (such as ProteinMPNN  or Rosetta) and  visualisation tools (ex:PyMol).
    • A demonstrated track record of high-quality scientific publications.
    • Good software engineering experience (Python, Docker, Linux, Git).
    • Excellent communication skills in English.
    • Knowledge of proteomics, immunology is a plus.
    • Appropriate work permit for the considered location.
