About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engine DevOps Engineer to join our highly talented and experienced engine programming team.

This role is chiefly concerned with matters of workflow automation, waste minimisation, and rapid feedback in the context of proprietary game engine development. You will help to develop, maintain, and expand the infrastructure and processes that support the development of our Cobra engine, to deliver a first class developer experience for our team.

Cobra plays a huge part in our future success and enables our game teams to realise their creative visions. Your passion for providing efficient and effective tools and workflows will be pivotal to delivering the quality that we strive for in all our games.
This is a new role within our engine team, encompassing a number of important responsibilities that have emerged as our team has grown. To this end you will explore and refine the specifics of this role with time and experience, working closely with both our engine programming team and build engineering team to achieve this.

Key Responsibilities

    • Owning the technologies and processes that make up Cobra's development pipelines and workflows, including:
    • o   Scripts for building and packaging our engine and games
      o   Integration with and usage of version control and continuous integration systems
      o   Tools and processes for the review and testing of code
      o   Tools and plugins for developer efficiency
      o   Processes for internal engine releases
      o   And more!
    • Developing, extending, and maintaining these systems.
    • Identifying and addressing areas for improvement in these systems.
    • Ensuring that systems and processes are suitably documented and surfaced to developers.
    • Growing and refining the role to best service our evolving needs.
    • Collaborating closely with the rest of the engine team, our build engineering team, and our game teams to achieve these goals.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

    • Essential
    • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and methodologies, and their effective application.
    • Strong understanding of C# and Python.
    • Experience configuring and maintaining continuous integration systems; experience with TeamCity is a plus.
    • Experience administering and interfacing with version control systems; experience with Perforce and/or SVN is a plus.
    • Desirable
    • Familiarity with C++.
    • o   In particular, how C++ programs are built.
      o   Experience with build systems such as Jam or CMake is a plus.
    • Games industry experience.
    • o   Understanding of game engine architecture.
      o   Experience with console development.
    • Technical writing capability.
