ROLE DESCRIPTION - FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Job scope Gym Fitness Instructor
Reporting to Entertainment Manager
Responsible for Fitness Classes and Personal Training
Role Overview Conduct fitness classes including Stretching, Mobility, Boot Camp,
Pilates, Core & Balance, Yoga, Guided Meditation and other
disciplines. Maintain Gym equipment and report any repairs or
replacements that may be required. Personal Training for residents as
required.
Specific Responsibilities
• To create and deliver a variety of fitness classes suitable for all ages and abilities.
• Classes to include, but not limited to, Stretching, Mobility, Boot Camp (occasionally),
Pilates, Core & Balance, Yoga, Guided Meditation and other disciplines.
• To start morning classes at 8:00 am and continue throughout the day in the gym as
required. For sea days offer additional afternoon classes on deck including Yoga,
Core & Balance, Pilates etc
• To socialize with the residents
• Answer questions and advise about health providing fitness advice.
• To offer and present one-to-one personal training sessions based on demand and
constructing individual development fitness plans
• Social with residents and assist the Entertainment Manager and team with on-board
events and activities primarily in the evenings
• To ensure the gym is properly cleaned and maintained keeping all the weights and
equipment organized
• To check all gym equipment is safe and working correctly, keeping a maintenance
log and inform the Entertainment Manager of any repairs or maintenance required
• To carry out all performance responsibilities to the high standard expected by VVR/ CCS
• To carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by VVR / CCS
Qualifications and experience
• Level 2 Gym Instructor Certification - Minimum qualification to work as a fitness
instructor.
• Level 3 Personal Trainer Certification - Required to work as a personal trainer ( offered
by CIMSPA-recognized providers like NASM, YMCA, and Active IQ).
• First Aid & CPR Certification - Essential for handling emergencies.
• Specialist Certifications - Additional courses in areas like strength training, nutrition,
group fitness, or rehabilitation can improve employability.
• STCW and medical certificates as required by the ship
