Job Description & Qualifications – Safety Manager In accordance with the requirements of GOPR 1.4, upon joining the vessel, each crew member is provided with a specific Job Description. The Job Description and expectations are discussed between the Supervisor and the crew member. For the duration of the contract, the signed copies are kept by the crew member and filed electronically in PO.07.

The Safey Manager is responsible for:

· Ensuring the overall readiness of the vessel’s safety equipment, including Life Saving Appliances, Fire Fighting Appliances, and watertight integrity.

· Maintaining the safety equipment certification and records in compliance with the Company filing structure.

· Working closely with the Deck and Engine Management Team to ensure the safety, certification and survey of all Lifting Appliances and associated equipment.

· Ensuring a robust Safety & Health culture with the aim to prevent accidents.

· Investigating and reporting incidents as well as providing recommendations for corrective and preventive actions.

· Ensuring compliance with statutory health, safety and hygiene requirements, applicable Company’s requirements as well as the provisions of the MCA “Code of Safe Working Practice”.

· Communicating Company’s safety objectives and targets to all Officers and Crew and encouraging their participation and contribution.

· Conducting safety and health inspections at regular intervals as well as reporting defects and safety observations to the Master.

· Ensuring regular preventive maintenance, inspection and testing of all safety equipment.

· Supervision of Safety Officer and Marine Admin (Safety).

· Working closely with the Engineering Department regarding the servicing and repair of all safety equipment.

· Ensuring that safety familiarisation, training, drills and emergency exercises are conducted in full compliance with statutory and company requirements.

· Ensuring STCW, CoC and Company required certificates are valid for all seafarers on-board.

· Ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are implemented timely and effectively.

· Ensuring that the Muster List and all associated software and documentation is fully up to date and displayed as required.

· Reviewing the Company’s Management System on a regular basis and reporting to the Staff Captain proposals for improvement. The Safety Manager reports and is accountable to the Staff Captain.
