The 3rd Engineering Officer on Watch (third engine officer on watch, 3rd EOOW) is assigned for watchkeeping duties unless directed otherwise by superiors.  
 
 
Responsibilities of the 3rd Engineer include: 
- Keeping scheduled watches in the ER (engine room) and work in ER during the overtime period 
- Reporting any machinery defects affecting safe vessel operation. 
- Ensuring engine room safety equipment is in excellent condition and readily available.  
- Updating the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) with clear records.  
- Supervising and guiding crew members. 
- Ensuring compliance with safe working practices.  
- Handling equipment with care. 
- Reporting incidents to superiors.  
- Creates requisitions and performs periodic inventory of spares and consumables related to area of responsibility 
- Directly in charge about particular groups of equipment, which can include air compressors, boilers, economizers, R.O. plants, evaporators, purifiers, etcetera.  
- Familiar with Chief Engineer’s Standing Orders and with CCS Safety Management System.  Acts according to the Muster List during emergencies. 


Position Requirements

    • National Second Engineer Certificate of Competency (COC III/1 unlimited) as per STCW regulations
    • 12 months sea time as 4th Engineer or 6 months as Third Engineer
    • Good knowledge of maritime rules and regulations (SOLAS, STCW, MARPOL, MLC)
    • Good knowledge of the requirements under USPH (USCG knowledge beneficial)
    • Fluent command in English 
    • Certificates according to STCW
