Position Summary / Job description
The Junior AC Reefer Engineer is responsible for:
· Maintaining and overseeing the overall condition of all air conditioning and refrigeration systems and machinery onboard.
· Directing the daily activities of junior engineers and technicians to ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with regulations.
· Ensuring all personnel work in accordance with regulatory constraints and maintaining control of budgeted overtime.
· Conducting maintenance and testing of HVAC instruments and automation.
· Inspecting the cleanliness and safety of exhaust ducts in galley, laundry, and launderette areas, and ensuring proper cleaning routines are executed.
· Testing and maintaining all HVAC- related ventilation dampers, including safety-related dampers.
· Optimizing energy efficiency of the ship’s HVAC systems to reduce energy consumption and improve environmental sustainability.
· Analyzing data to identify opportunities for energy savings.
· Keeping temperature logs for freezers and cold rooms as required by regulations.
· Conducting routine refrigerant leak inspections and taking corrective actions as necessary, reporting discoveries immediately.
· Managing F-Gas logbooks and ensuring a minimum stock of refrigerant is maintained onboard.
· Requisitioning supplies, spare parts, and consumables for the systems under their responsibility and maintaining control of operational budgets.
· Proficient use of AMOS for forecasting, implementing, and recording all work undertaken and managing spares/consumables.
· Familiar with Chief Engineer’s Standing Orders, follows safety and pollution prevention rules, and is up-to-date with CCS Safety Management System.
· Act according to the Muster List in emergencies.
Position Requirements Entry level 1
- An academically proven qualification as Diploma graduate in commercial HVAC-R ( Hotel Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) at College degree level as a minimum or equivalent (trade school).
- F-Gas / EPA certificate.
- Min. 12 months relevant sea going experience as a Jr. Reefer Engineer on cruise vessels or as Reefer Engineer on Cargo ships (excluding Container vessels). Or working ashore for a large 5-star hotel.
- OR Min. 5 years combined relevant sea going experience as a Air Conditioning Technician on cruise vessels.
- Proven experience of working within the refrigeration industry.
- In-depth knowledge of Halocarbon 'fluorinated' refrigeration system designed process principles, control system and instrumentation
- Experience working with planned maintenance system AMOS.
Position Requirements Entry Level 2
- F-Gas / EPA certificate.
- 10 years combined relevant sea going experience as a Air Conditioning Technician on cruise vessels.
- Proven experience of working within the refrigeration industry.
- In-depth knowledge of Halocarbon 'fluorinated' refrigeration system designed process principles, control system and instrumentation
- Experience working with planned maintenance system AMOS.
