Position Summary / Job description
The 2nd Engineering Officer on Watch (second engine officer on watch, 2nd EOOW) is assigned for watchkeeping unless instructed otherwise by superiors.  
 
Responsibilities of the 2nd engineering officer on watch (2nd EOOW) include: 
 
·  Keeping scheduled watches in the ECR (engine control room) and work in ER during the overtime period 
·  Reporting any machinery defects affecting safe and environmentally sound vessel operation.  
·  Ensuring all engine room safety equipment is in optimal condition.  
·  Conducting proactive maintenance and repairs. 
·  Creates requisitions and performs periodic inventory of spares and consumables related to area of responsibility 
·  Updating the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) with clear records. 
·  Supervising and guiding crew members.  
·  Promoting safe working spaces. 
·  Handling equipment with care.  
·  Reporting incidents to superiors.  
·  Directly in charge about particular groups of equipment, which can include air compressors, boilers, economizers, R.O. plants, evaporators, purifiers, etcetera.  
·  Familiar with Chief Engineer’s Standing Orders and with CCS Safety Management System.  
·  Acts according to the Muster List during emergencies. 



Position Requirements

    • National Second Engineer Certificate of Competency (COC III/2 unlimited) as per STCW regulations
    • 24 months sea time as 3rd watchkeeping Engineer
    • Good knowledge of maritime rules and regulations (SOLAS, STCW, MARPOL, MLC)
    • Good knowledge of the requirements under USPH (USCG knowledge beneficial)
    • Fluent command in English 
    • Certificates according to STCW
