Cirrus Logic is looking for talented Summer and MEng Engineering Interns to join their experienced engineering teams in both Edinburgh and Newbury, and work on industrial projects relevant to their degree.

This exciting opportunity includes openings in the following areas:

  • Analog and Digital Design
  • Verification
  • Emulation
  • IC Layout Design
  • EMC
  • Applications
  • Validation and BSYS
  • Product Test Engineering

Please note that Analog and Digital Design, Verification and Emulation are all available in both Edinburgh and Newbury. The rest are only available in Edinburgh.

Summer placements are running between June and September.

MEng placements running between April and January.

Departmental Summary:

  • Analog and Digital Design - You will need a solid understanding of analog or digital integrated circuit design. You will work alongside our experienced designers to develop IPs for mixed-signal ICs.
  • Verification - You will need a strong background in HDLs such as Verilog or VHDL. You will work alongside design engineers to support pre-silicon verification.
  • Emulation - This discipline sits between; systems, design, software and validation and so a basic understanding of each is beneficial. You will need to have good problem-solving abilities and be comfortable with hardware, HDLs, software and test equipment. A certain level of inventiveness is also required to provide emulated prototypes of the ASICs or project demonstrators.
  • IC Layout Design - You will need an understanding of analog circuits, semiconductor device physics and preferably semiconductor manufacturing processes - You will collaborate with experienced engineers to create a physical design of a mixed signal IC circuit, or develop new methodologies.
  • EMC - You will need a basic understanding of electromagnetic compatibility, signal integrity, electronic circuits, RF measurements, testing, and modelling. You will work alongside EMC engineers to perform emissions and immunity testing, use instruments such as VNAs and spectrum analyzers, model electromagnetic behavior, troubleshoot interference, and develop solutions to ensure our products meet industry standards.
  • Applications - You will need a background in mixed signal systems design including PCB design and hands-on laboratory experience. You will work alongside applications engineers developing systems for demonstration and evaluation.
  • Validation and BSYS – You will need experience using laboratory equipment such as audio analyzers, logic analyzers, DMMs, and oscilloscopes. Your work will include developing and executing validation test plans, designing test boards, and writing automation scripts to evaluate and debug silicon.
  • Product Test Engineering - You will need solid foundations in analog and digital electronics, programming, and data analysis. You will work alongside experienced test engineers, developing and debugging test programs and analysing silicon performance.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Enrolled in MEng or BEng in Electronics and Electrical Engineering (or related) degree and on track for a 2:1 or better.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Solid understanding of analogue and digital integrated circuit design fundamentals
  • Understanding of CMOS operational amplifier design
  • Strong lab and silicon validation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

What to expect from your internship with Cirrus Logic:

  • Working on a detailed technical project relevant to your degree.
