Senior Quantum Photonics Researcher (Experimental Quantum Cryptography)

We are looking for a senior quantum photonics researcher to join our cybersecurity department to work on experimental quantum cryptography. The quantum optics team strives to develop practical devices that exploit quantum phenomena to enhance security. Working closely with theoretical researchers from our quantum cryptography team, we implement novel protocols for real-world deployment of quantum systems.
A successful candidate will combine their knowledge of quantum optics and photonics engineering to develop novel optical devices and proof of concept quantum cryptography systems. This role will be primarily lab-based working within our multi-disciplinary quantum optics team located in our London office. You will work closely with our cryptography and quantum information experts. You will have opportunity to expand your expertise in electronics, quantum photonics and theoretical cryptography, as well as the freedom to explore self-motivated research relevant to quantum cryptography within Quantinuum.


    • Implement proof of concept quantum key distribution systems.
    • Design, implement and characterise prototypes devices.
    • Work within a multi-disciplinary quantum optics team.
    • Collaborate with theoretical quantum and classical cryptography researchers.

Key Skills and Requirements

    • PhD (or equivalent experience) in physics, engineering or mathematics.
    • Hands-on experience with experimental quantum optics.
    • Experience developing practical quantum devices.
    • Experience with high-speed fibre-optic components.
    • Knowledge of quantum key distribution protocols.
    • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Programming experience with languages such as Python or C.
    • Ability to mentor and coach colleagues.
