Research Software Engineer, Quantum Algorithms (Cambridge)

We are recruiting a research software engineer to work in our rapidly-growing quantum algorithms team. This role is based at our office in Cambridge and you will be working within a team of leading scientists, developers and engineers.

The successful candidate will have the ability and tenacity to design and implement innovative solutions that minimise classical and quantum resources for a variety of quantum algorithms. As such the ideal candidate will be an outstanding computer programmer who is knowledgeable about quantum algorithms and has a solid understanding of (classical) statistical / data-science principles.

Key requirements:

    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Motivated and experienced in working on software within a team, communicating ideas, and writing code that can be understood by others.
    • Competence in engineering mathematics (calculus, linear algebra, statistics etc.).
    • Experience with Python and the related tooling, and at least one other language, preferably Julia or Rust.
    • Familiarity with version control systems and project management tools.
    • A Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, science, or engineering is preferred but candidates with a masters degree with very strong academic results and additional relevant experience will be considered.

Desirable skills:

    • Broad knowledge of programming languages and paradigms.
    • Knowledge of quantitative finance and software development in finance.
    • Experience in a similar role.
    • Comfortable using cloud technologies.
    • Knowledge of Bayesian inference and parameter estimation.
    • Knowledge of quantum algorithms.
    • Experience with quantum software (such as Pytket, Qiskit, Pennylane etc).
    • Experience of optimisation and numerical simulations.
    • A demonstrated track-record of scientific publication.
