The role
Biofidelity is seeking a talented and highly motivated Director of Bioinformatics to lead development of novel methods for next-generation sequencing.  The role is focused on our ENSPYRE platform, which significantly increases sensitivity whilst simultaneously decreasing sequencing requirements. The ideal candidate will lead development of the platform through to clinical validation and product launch. The ideal candidate is strategic, collaborative, adaptable and enjoys working in a dynamic environment.
 
Key responsibilities:
      Provide strategic input on the positioning and differentiation of the ENSPYRE platform across the NGS market
      To act as the company-wide subject matter expert for oncology focused applications of NGS, and guide the development of ENSPYRE to showcase the technology’s potential in this field
      Provide strong leadership and mentorship, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous improvement
      To act both as an individual contributor and as the leader of the bioinformatic and wet lab development of the ENSPYRE platform for minimal residual disease detection
      Provide day-to-day management of the team to meet key organisational objectives 
      Support the career progression and personal development of team members, including mentorship, training opportunities, and performance feedback
      Oversee the design, execution, and analysis of experiments
      Work collaboratively with the commercial team to identify market needs, competitive landscape, and partnerships
      Ensure adherence to Biofidelity’s SDLC policies, including relevant quality standards and regulatory requirements
      Represent the company in scientific conferences, publications, and in discussions with partners
      Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in bioinformatics, genomics, and oncology
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      Deep understanding of the oncology diagnostics market, applications of NGS within this market, and the technical and clinical limitations of existing solutions, particularly in early-detection and minimal residual disease (essential)
      Understanding of the broader NGS market including both clinical diagnostics and research
      Strong background in computational biology (essential), oncology (essential) and molecular biology (desired)
      Scientific software development experience (essential, proficiency in one or more of Python, C, C++, or R)
      Clear communicator, with a ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to work across the company including non-technical colleagues (essential)
      Experience with NGS data analysis (essential)
      Familiarity with standard software engineering tools (Jira, Git, CI/CD) (essential)
      Understanding of mathematical modelling and statistical analysis of NGS data (essential)
      Experience using bioinformatics workflow management systems (essential)
      Experience in architecting and developing cloud-based solutions in Amazon Web Services (desired)
      Experience in developing molecular biology workflows (desired)
      Knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL for managing and querying large datasets (desired)
 
Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:
      Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a related field (essential)
      5+ years industry experience (essential)
      Proven track record of leadership in bioinformatics with expertise in NGS data analysis, particularly in oncology applications (essential)
      Strong understanding of molecular diagnostic technologies, commercialization strategies, and product positioning (desired)
      Demonstrated experience in leading and developing multidisciplinary teams (essential)
      Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills (essential)
