Sevita International is seeking a dynamic finance professional to work alongside our CFO and Leadership Team to manage all financial and administrative elements of the business. There will be a heavy focus on continuous development and improvement to help drive the ongoing success of our growing enterprise. 

The right candidate can expect to transition to the primary leader of our finance group after successfully working in the Senior Finance Manager role for 6 to 18 months.  The current CFO will move into the supporting role at that time.

Primary Accountabilities:

Financial Reporting and Budgeting

    • Work with the CFO to solicit required input from relevant departments and develop the annual budget for approval
    • Work with the CFO to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for use by shareholders, management, lenders and others as required
    • Oversee the tracking of departmental budgets (eg: seed division) and work with the CFO to track results relative to the overall company budget
    • Provide commentary and analysis for consideration by shareholders and management regarding the budget and reports mentioned above as required

Financial Planning and Analysis

    • Work with functional leaders to analyze key customers, business segments, processes, transactions, contracts etc. to inform their decision making on a go forward basis with a focus on increased efficiency and improved business results
    • Design and implement dashboard style reports to give managers visibility on key metrics.
    • Work directly with IT team to access information for use in reporting and analysis in a secure, accurate and reliable fashion. 
    • Work with CFO and Sevita IT leader to design value added business intelligence reports to provide valuable information in an efficient and reliable fashion. E.g.: assigning hedging impacts to export COGS on a regional or customer level.
    • Assist in the development of pricing and customer programs for both the seed and export sales groups as required
    • Implement reliable methods for measuring true cost of production and identifying opportunities for increased efficiency at all Sevita facilities
    • Work with the grain business manager to reconcile Sevita’s commodity and FX hedging transactions on a periodic basis to ensure the company is fully hedged at all times
    • Complete the end of season “Dealer Reconciliations” in a timely manner with a focus on transparency and understandability

Purchasing and Inventory

    • Oversee and monitor perpetual inventory accounts for reasonability and update SAP as required ensuring a high level of accuracy in reporting
    • Assume responsibility for purchasing of non-commodity inventory including negotiating prices and monitoring inventory/re-order levels

Business Development

    • Build upon and refine existing policies, procedures, and controls with a focus on improving efficiency, understandability (customer and internal), accuracy and timeliness of key finance deliverables as well as consistency across functional departments and locations
    • Develop sales tools utilizing soybean variety performance data along with current pricing and premium information to support the sales team in demonstrating profit opportunities to farmers. 

Team and Department Management

    • Lead by example and uphold “culture of accountability” within the accounting and finance department
    • Establish, monitor, and enforce internal policies, procedures, and controls
    • Assist and oversee the accounting team in accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger transactions
    • Make constructive recommendations to the CFO and General Manager regarding the ongoing development of the accounting and finance team from both a personnel and responsibilities perspective

Minimum Educational and Other Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree or higher in business and/or finance
    • Chartered Professional Accountant

Professional Experience – Minimum

    • 10 years in finance or accounting role
    • 3 years managing a team
    • Experience working with SAP
    • Two of the following:
    • o  Experience accounting for derivatives for the purposes of hedging/risk management
      o  Experience in Agriculture or related industries (e.g.: food production)
      o  Experience in IT management and/or infrastructure development projects

Other Skills

    • Writing queries to pull targeted information from SAP or other such systems
    • Report and dashboard building for business analysis
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
    • Bilingual – English and French (not required but an asset)
    • Strong communication skills and a proven ability to explain and discuss complex financial matters with less sophisticated colleagues and other stakeholders
