About the Role
 
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy equipment used in our sand and gravel operations, using both traditional tools and modern computer-based diagnostic systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on heavy equipment such as: Wheel loaders, excavators, dozers, skid steers
  • Haul trucks and on-road trucks (if applicable)
  • Screens, crushers, conveyors, and plant equipment
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance according to schedule.
  • Use computer-based diagnostic software and OEM programs to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Connect laptops/diagnostic tools to equipment ECMs to retrieve fault codes and perform calibrations.
  • Conduct inspections, identify potential problems, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Use diagnostic tools, service manuals, technical documentation, and online OEM resources.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and/or paper maintenance and repair records.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate repair needs, parts requirements, and equipment status to supervisors.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and in compliance with safety regulations.

Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and drivetrains.
  • Basic computer skills, including: Using laptops with diagnostic software to read and clear codes, navigating OEM diagnostic programs and service portals, entering work orders and notes into maintenance software (or willingness to learn)
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and parts diagrams.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and work in outdoor/industrial environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills (mechanical and computer-based).
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new diagnostic technologies and software.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and following procedures.

Preferred:

  • Experience in sand & gravel, mining, or construction materials industry.
  • CDL license (Class A or B) is a plus.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • OEM or trade school training/certification in heavy equipment or diesel technology.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
$75,000 - $90,000 a year
Based on experience.
Working Conditions
 
·        Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
·        Exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment
·        May require extended hours during peak production periods
