As a Senior Software Engineer you understand how to write efficient and maintainable code and are influential in how software is designed for scale. As a clear communicator, you’re also comfortable in taking technical concepts and making them relatable to less technical audiences, ensuring maximum engagement and alignment around our shared goals.

What you'll be doing:

    • Help future proof the business and support growth by delivering excellent production ready, logical and pragmatic code in the following languages - Java, AWS
    • Follow best-in-class agile processes
    • Drive for use of accepted design patterns to allow for autonomous and iterative development and future scaling needs
    • Use business and system domain knowledge to anticipate and minimise the cost of future change
    • Manage stakeholder expectations and anticipate and communicate blockers, delays to mitigate risk in advance of issues arising
    • Ensure testing techniques and frameworks are considered and champion improvements to achieve company quality goals more efficiently
    • Help foster a security first mindset
    • Troubleshoot and solve complex software issues to overcome obstacles, resolve blockers and complete tasks
    • Communication and collaboration - You’ll work closely with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders to build trust based relationships and foster a culture of open collaboration, ensuring complex technical issues and findings can be easily translatable to both technical and non-technical audience
    • Mentor and coach more junior team members

What skills and experience would set you up for success in the role:

    • Experience working across the stack with exposure to several of the following:Java, AWS
    • Genuine passion for the end product and delivering outstanding customer solutions with pragmatic, logical and maintainable code
    • Experience influencing key stakeholders (internally and externally) to consistently deliver against key projects
    • An in-depth understanding of web development practices and technologies and tools. Exposure to e-commerce a bonus
    • Familiar with software architecture patterns, database optimisations, infrastructure, scalability and deployment
    • A broad understanding of the software development lifecycle and practical hands-on experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery & QA
    • Experience working in and driving an Agile development environment

Working Patterns
We are extremely proud of our culture and believe in the many benefits that being in the office provides - all our roles require regular time in our office in the central business district in Cape Town.
 
We do not offer fully remote roles but we support hybrid working wherever possible (3 days in office, 2 days from home). However, to meet the needs of our customers and business operations many of our Operational and Commercial roles are fully office based.
